Rev. John Simpson

SCC Class of 1976

Southeastern Community College Alumni Association | Distinguished Alumnus Award 2018

John Simpson graduated from Southeastern Community College with an Associate’s Degree in 1976. The patience and guidance of SCC teachers like Lena Faigle, Fred Karre, Lillian Sutlive, and Raymond Goeke stand out for John. Mr. Goeke nurtured John’s love for music and encouraged him to study to become a piano technician.

John went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy at Culver-Stockton College and a Master in Divinity Pastoral Ministry degree from Christian Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1999 and became pastor at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fort Madison, Iowa in 2001. He organized the TBFC praise band there, encouraging local musicians to be a part and grow in their faith commitment.

John has ministered to those who were grieving and those who were dying, and has worked within the community as an advocate for the poor.
