Michael V. Dunn attended Keokuk Community College from fall 1963 through spring 1964. He received his BA and MA from the University of New Mexico. Mr. Dunn established the Southeast Iowa Regional Planning Commission in 1973, serving as its first Executive Director. He also co-founded Keokuk’s Puck-e-she-tuck Days. Mr. Dunn was a member of the Iowa Development Commission, and served on the State of Iowa’s City Development Board.
Michael Dunn has had a long involvement in agricultural credit, serving as the Midwest Director for the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA), vice president of the Farm Credit Banks of Omaha, and later as a member of the Professional Staff of the Senate Agriculture Committee. At the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Dunn served as a member of the Commodity Credit Corporation and Rural Telephone Bank Board.
Mr. Dunn was named Under Secretary of Agriculture for Marketing and Regulatory Programs at the USDA in 1995. Prior to that he served as the Acting Under Secretary for Rural Economic and Community Development and as Administrator of the FmHA.
In 2000, President Clinton announced Dunn’s appointment as a member of the Farm Credit Administration (FCA) Board, the entity responsible for regulating the Farm Credit System and the Federal Agricultural Mortgage Corporation. In 2001, Mr. Dunn became Director of the Office of Policy and Analysis at the FCA. In 2005, Mr. Dunn was, for the fifth time, nominated by a President and confirmed by the United States Senate, when President Bush selected him to serve as he was appointed a Commissioner on the Commodities Futures Trading Commission.
Mr. Dunn and his wife, the former Brook Connable, have four sons. Michael and Brook currently reside in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia and Keokuk, Iowa.
