Southeastern Community College Alumni Association | Distinguished Alumnus Award 2012
Randy Winegard grew up in Burlington, Iowa and graduated from Southeastern Community College (SCC) in 1967. While at SCC he led the baseball team in pitching and served as the manager for the championship Blackhawks basketball team.
Randy is President/CEO of Winegard Company which is located in Burlington. The Winegard Company is a leading and innovative producer of home and portable television and satellite antennas.
Randy is known for his generosity to those in the Burlington community and surrounding areas. He supports local schools, churches, athletics businesses, colleges and universities and has been instrumental in bringing new businesses to southeast Iowa. His vision for growth and development is illustrated by his numerous developments including the Spirit Hollow Golf Course and Residential Complex, Martini’s and Big Muddy’s restaurants, Pzazz! and Catfish Bend hotels, and family entertainment establishments like Fun City and Catfish Bend Casino and Resort. In addition to countless awards and recognitions Winegard Company has received under Randy’s direction, he personally was named “Distinguished Citizen” by the Des Moines County Boy Scouts. Years earlier, the prestigious “Emmy Award” was given to him and his father, John, by the Burlington/West Burlington Chamber of Commerce.
Randy continues to support SCC in many significant ways: through annual support for SCC athletics, by contributing the lead gift for the college’s first residence hall in 1989 and by establishing an endowed scholarship in 1998. In 2000 he pledged the largest gift to SCC’s first region-wide capital campaign and in 2010 became a member of the President’s Circle fund.
Randy continues to encourage SCC and the region to stretch, and for that and more, we are grateful.
